Provides leadership, and takes ownership of respective machining department with specific focus to safety, department on time delivery, scrap reduction, earned hours, and efficiency metrics, along with 5S, Lean initiatives and ongoing continuous improvement activities.


  • Organizes tasks, prepares work schedules, communicates and assigns work by priority using dispatch list, and oversees the overall production for assigned area(s).

  • Monitors dispatch list to ensure team members are signed in to jobs being worked on and working from the top to the bottom of the list.

  • Oversees teams operation and staffing to ensure that peers are following procedures, work instructions, productivity standards, quality, priorities, and working in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Monitors consumable materials for assigned area(s) and prepares purchase requisitions as needed.

  • Provides leadership, coaching, and training of employees in operation procedures and policies.Trains and develops back-up personnel for all key positions within department.

  • As applicable, reviews jobs/parts in the area on a daily basis for proper paperwork, parts stored in the proper bins, carts, or packed boxes, and spot check routers for correct date and initials, counts, legibility, and ensure that operations and special instructions such as custom packing or paperwork are accurate.

  • Actively encourages and supports employee involvement, continuous improvement, and teamwork.

  • Identifies areas of cost savings, waste reduction, cycle time reductions to improve processes, quality, and efficiencies.

  • Conducts weekly audits of another department, documents results, and reports findings.

  • Maintains department metric boards, safety crosses, and 5S metric. Audits daily 5S, and Maintenance sheets for work stations of respective department.

  • Verifies that employees are following good documentation practices at all times.

  • Ensures the productivity and efficiency required to meet customer due dates, while maintaining quality parts.

  • Performs special projects and assists in other areas of production as needed.

  • Sets-up and operates manual machinery including, but not limited, to drill press, engine lathe, Bridgeport mill, gun drill, surface grinder, and miscellaneous presses in accordance with engineering drawing specifications.

  • Reworks parts as per print, with written and verbal instructions.

  • Maintains production by completing scheduled work on-time as per the schedule.

  • Inspects components, subassemblies, and final assemblies to ensure proper form, fit, and function in addition to meeting all dimensional criteria.

  • Completes all documentation including routings, and inspection reports as required. Documents time entry into computer and ensures all work in process is properly identified and shop floor packets are kept current.


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 5 or more years of experience in applicable department

  • Math with the ability to add and subtract decimals

  • Ability to read Blue Prints and measurement tools

  • Prefer previous computer skills with Microsoft Office knowledge


  • Clear and concise communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interface with all levels of employees

  • Must be able to read procedure documents, work instructions and FDA Regulations


    Add and subtract decimals.


    Working knowledge of manual mill, manual lathe, surface grinder and honing machine required.

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.

  • Must be well-versed in many aspects of production operations, quality standards, company policies and procedures, as well as FDA guidelines and applications.

  • Act as a motivational support for peers as well as a leader in the day-to-day operations and planning of the area.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of manufactured product use and applications.

  • Attendance and flexibility in working schedule is required due to the expectations and variety of workloads and the teams’ work schedules.


    Assists Production Manager in decision making, problem solving, policy or procedure interpretation, and facilitation.Keeps manager informed of all pertinent information and developments affecting production. May be involved in disciplinary investigations but not actual administering of discipline.


    The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy and presents an unlikely hazard from possible projectiles requiring adequate safety items be used (i.e. safety goggles, earplugs, safety shoes). Machinery safety guards and switches must always be used in accordance to machinery manufactures specifications.
