AEROSPACE DEBURR TECH

SUMMARY

Perform final surface prep and deburr on finished machined aerospace parts utilizing, but not limited to, blasters, belt grinders, variable speed hand grinders, buffers, stereo microscopes, ultrasonic cleaner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Surface Prep

  • Inspects surface of work piece for defects.
  • Able to select grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications using knowledge of abrasives and condition of metal.
  • Use a grinder over surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burs.
  • Polish ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth, unmarred surface.
  • Operate hand grinders, belt sanders, buffers.
  • Use microscope to inspect work pieces that have interior bores and or hard to see areas.
  • Use hand deburr tools when necessary
  • Deburr internal features of parts including fuel ports, EDM holes, etc.
  • Blend machine surfaces with forge surfaces.

Ultrasonic Cleaner

  • Identifies maintenance needs of equipment and reports to Machine Operations Team Leader.
  • Performs preventative maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Operate ultrasonic cleaner
  • Set parameters on the ultrasonic cleaner.
  • Complete required inspection of parts to ensure work pieces were cleaned properly
  • Ensure proper placement of parts in cleaning baskets.

Sand Blast

  • Ensure uniform surface finish on work piece with proper media.

Part Flow

  • Ensures accurate process flow of products by following department procedures.
  • Locates WIP through knowledge of the various production processes, and an ability to read production routing tags, etc.
  • Maintains production levels at various work stations assuring an even flow of processing.
  • Assists in the processing of all production operations when process dictates.
  • Monitors and records all associated dimensions on the product to ensure conformance to all customer specifications.
  • Completes quality documents such as SPC charts, routers, and tags.
  • Counts parts to ensure all products are accounted for going in and out of all operations.
  • Checks router tags for completeness and verifying process.
  • Maintains housekeeping and safety standards in work area.
  • Additional duties as requested by management, including processing of non-aerospace components when needed.  This may include other departments within the Plant.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills

Knowledge of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, CMM, height gages, and comparators.
Knowledge of blueprint reading and geometric tolerances.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

None required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop: bend: climb or balance; and talk or hear.  The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee will need to be able to sit at a deburr station for long periods of time while performing job task using a stereo microscope.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
