Potential for sign on bonus of $2,500

Experienced CNC Lathe Machinists in our Lansing, MI location with the following skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of Okuma OSP-P200l control
  • Sound knowledge of best practices in tool selection and machining technologies with the ability to apply them to meet surface finish, tool life, cycle time and all quality requirements.
  • Ability to inspect work produced, including 1st pc inspection, in-process inspection, development of inspection techniques and inspection training documents.
  • Strong knowledge of blue print reading , technical math and all GD&T practices with the ability to analyze part requirements, tolerance stack ups and WIN SPC data to identify process variations then using that data to proactively diagnose and correct deviations.
  • Work with a cross-functional team(quality assurance, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers) to resolve quality, cost and delivery issues
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills
  • Ability to set-up, trouble-shoot and maintain Multi Axis (X,Y,Z,B,C,W),Multi Spindle(main/sub),Multi Turret(upper/lower) Okuma (Multus/Macturn) NC equipment.
    • Experience in full 5 axis continuous and high speed machining
    • Understanding of Slant machining work planes and adjustments
    • Ability to implement and maintain Renishaw/okuma probing cycles for picking up part datum’s/features as well as in-process inspection.
    • Knowledge of the use of variables, macros, logic and sub programs to simplify NC code and improve processes
    • Strong knowledge of Okuma specific mill-turn G & M codes
    •  Verify all alignments and zero-sets are within factory spec and maintained (spindle to spindle, B-axis alignment, lower turret ex.)  
    • Properly set-up, use and maintain collision avoidance features(home positions, soft limits, interference zones) to insure machine condition is protected
    • Ability to calibrate and utilize machine tool touch setter
    • Experience with spindle synchronization and spindle to spindle part transfer.
    • Verify important tool geometry using a zoller presetter or optical comparator
  • Ability to maintain close tolerances within .0002”

Sets up and operates computer numerical control (CNC) machines to run according to production schedule of both internal and external jobs in order to meet customer requirements.


•Studies blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup required.
•Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills and lathes.
•Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
•Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
•Performs daily routine maintenance of CNC lathes and mills.
•Audits first piece samples of production (when required).
•Completes daily quality documentation such as routers and tags.
•Completes statistical process control (SPC) charts (when required).
•Maintains housekeeping and safety standards in work area.
•Will be required to run multiple pieces of equipment at one time per supervisor request or production needs.
•May be required to fill out additional paperwork.
•Additional duties as requested by management.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; five plus years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized form.

Technical Skills
•Knowledge of blueprint reading, and geometric tolerancing.
•Knowledge of CAM basics, including program editing.
•Use and knowledge of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, CMM, height gages, and comparators.
•Working knowledge of CNC equipment.
•Working knowledge of ball bar testing principles and equipment.

Journeyman program completion preferred.  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee frequently is required to walk; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 120 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, and is regularly exposed to wet conditions and fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
