POSITION SUMMARY (Lead Responsibilities Below)

The position requires the operator to produce a quality product per print as assigned with little supervision.  The operator will train and assist other operators in performing their jobs and trouble-shooting.  The operator must rely on experience and judgment to accomplish goals with above average degree of independence and initiative to complete job requirements in accordance with the production timeline.


  • Sets-up and/or operates assigned equipment to produce quality products per print.
  • Inspects product and document data as required.
  • Initiates machine adjustments to ensure quality product.
  • Performs additional operations per supervisor direction.
  • Creates and maintains accurate data for company organizational records.
  • Organizes and keeps work area clean.
  • Trains and assists others as required.


  • Has a basic understanding of Mazatrol and G-code systems.
  • Able to perform general math calculations.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings.
  • Able to use inspection equipment (comparator, micrometer, and caliper).
  • Able to navigate PL Controller (ex. Fanuc, Mazatrol, Haas, other).
  • Able to complete task in a timely fashion.
  • Detailed oriented with large emphasis on accuracy.
  • Able to Multi-task.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year minimum CNC milling set up experience preferred, or 2 years as an operator in Milling, Turning or Swiss.
  • Two years minimum general machine shop experience preferred.

This position requires walking, sitting, communicating with others at least 1/3 of scheduled hours.

It also involves reaching and using hands and fingers to operate measuring instruments and machinery. Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds (under 1/3 of the time). Must have adequate dexterity with hands and able to work in small areas.


The operator must be able to read small print (6-12 inch font with or without vision aides). The operator is occasionally required to view items at 20 inches or less, with or without vision aides.

  • Less than 90 decibels (TWA).
  • Requires wearing safety glasses, earplugs (optional), and safety shoes.

  • Work near moving mechanical parts over 2/3 of the time.
  • Exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals under 1/3 of the time.

Provides leadership, and takes ownership of respective Machining department with specific focus to safety, department on time delivery, scrap reduction, earned hours, and efficiency metrics, along with 5S, Lean initiatives and ongoing continuous improvement activities.


  • Organizes tasks, prepares work schedules, communicates and assigns work by priority using dispatch list, and oversees the overall production for assigned area(s).

  • Monitors dispatch list to ensure team members are signed in to jobs being worked on and working from the top to the bottom of the list.

  • Oversees teams operation and staffing to ensure that peers are following procedures, work instructions, productivity standards, quality, priorities, and working in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Enforces and monitors Factory – Wiz entries/and or machine utilization data sheets filled out by operators.

  • Monitors consumable materials for assigned area(s) and prepares purchase requisitions as needed.

  • Ensures a smooth transition between first and second shifts, making sure work is lined up and operators understand what jobs are being worked on.

  • Provides leadership, coaching, and training of employees in operation procedures and policies.Trains and develops back-up personnel for all key positions within department.

  • As applicable, reviews jobs/parts in the area on a daily basis for proper paperwork, parts stored in the proper bins, carts, or packed boxes, and spot check routers for correct date and initials, counts, legibility, and ensure that operations and special instructions such as custom packing or paperwork are accurate.

  • Actively encourages and supports employee involvement, continuous improvement, and teamwork.

  • Identifies areas of cost savings, waste reduction, cycle time reductions to improve processes, quality, and efficiencies.

  • Runs machines in respective department and maintains 50% efficiency.

  • Conducts weekly audits of another department, documents results, and reports findings.

  • Maintains department metric boards, safety crosses, and 5S metric. Audits daily 5S, and Maintenance sheets for work stations of respective department.

  • Verifies that employees are following good documentation practices at all times.

  • Ensures the productivity and efficiency required to meet customer due dates, while maintaining quality parts.

  • Performs special projects and assists in other areas of production as needed.

  • Monitors parts leaving respective department for visual defects and burrs.


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 5 or more years of experience in applicable department

  • Math with the ability to add and subtract decimals

  • Ability to read Blue Prints and measurement tools

  • Prefer previous computer skills with Microsoft Office knowledge


  • Clear and concise communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interface with all levels of employees

  • Must be able to read procedure documents, work instructions and FDA Regulations


    Add and subtract decimals.


  • Working knowledge of all turning center controls and machines. (Turning)

  • Working knowledge of all Milling center controls and machines. (Milling)

  • Working Knowledge of all Swiss controls and machines. (Swiss)

  • Working knowledge of all edm controls and machines. (EDM)

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.

  • Must be well-versed in many aspects of production operations, quality standards, company policies and procedures, as well as FDA guidelines and applications.

  • Act as a motivational support for peers as well as a leader in the day-to-day operations and planning of the area.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of manufactured product use and applications.

  • Attendance and flexibility in working schedule is required due to the expectations and variety of workloads and the teams’ work schedules.


    Assists Production Manager or Supervisor in decision making, problem solving, policy or procedure interpretation, and facilitation. Keeps manager informed of all pertinent information and developments affecting production. May be involved in disciplinary investigations but not actual administering of discipline.
