Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Review customer needs and makes prototype programs, fixture drawings, purchase/maintain tooling and tooling programs.  Develops production programs (CNC) for custom and semi-custom products with engineering input by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consults with engineers and other personnel regarding product information such as design, capacity and propose, and types of material to be used to fabricate product to determine feasibility of product proposal.
  • Analyzes written specifications, drawings, rough sketches and verbal instructions to plan layout and determine sequence of operations. 
  • Coordinates and programs prototypes molds and fixtures through the value stream  and tool room departments in cooperation with the managers of each department. Evaluates experimental procedures and recommends changes or modification for efficiency and adaptability to setup production.
  • Analyzes and inspects to determine that design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Test experimental models under simulated operating conditions for such purposes as development, standardization, and feasibility of design.
  • Confers with engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.  Confers with manufacturing and engineering on, and programming of, production phase. This will include the scheduling of machinery to be used for prototype work in cooperation with the Value Stream Leader and tool room manager.
  • Will program new designs from 3-dimensional computer models.  May use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks. 
  • Review and program all mold activity including reworks, ECO's and prototyping.  Contacts the engineer if there are any discrepancies.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

  • Manufacturing operations
  • Ability to troubleshoot programming and production problems.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
  • Ability to deal with problems involving many variables in fluid situations.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

High School degree or GED.  Minimum 5 years’ experience in programming and fixturing. Experience communicating with customers to assist in the design and production of surgical containers (5 years).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
