Steps to become FPI Inspector - NAS 410 Level II Certified:  1. Four hundred (400) hours training under observation of a Level II Inspector, 2. Complete thirty-two (32) hour training class, 3. Take and pass all three (3) required exams the week following the class.

SUMMARY

Performs non-destructive testing on products using fluorescent penetrant inspection as required to conform to customer and/or national standards, by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Performs inspection procedures following customers’ specifications.
  • Determines acceptability of product based on results of testing.
  • Interprets results, and determines probable cause of defects.
  • Performs daily system checks.
  • Documents and publishes results of FPI testing.
  • Additional duties as requested by management.
  • Travel required .

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills

Working knowledge of flourescent penetrant inspection equipment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

ASNT Level I or III or Zimmer FPI Level I

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include near, distance, sharpness vision and color and depth perception. This vision exam will be conducted annually.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles.  The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
