HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT  (part-time: 24 hours/week)

JOB SUMMARY 

The Human Resources Assistant performs a wide range of functions in support of the Human Resources department.  The Human Resources Assistant interfaces with all company departments on a regular basis to provide a timely flow of information in a manner consistent with the policies of the company.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains employee data in HRIS and other HR systems and regularly audit data entry and correct discrepancies.
  • Assists in the administration and data entry of benefit programs to include health, dental, vision, life and disability plans.
  • Assists with new hire orientation and benefit enrollment meetings with employees.  Verifies that all proper documentation has been received.
  • In conjunction with HR Manager, interfaces with Finance to ensure coordination of payroll information by processing required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintains employee files and records, and assures completeness of all human resource files.
  • Interfaces with Training Specialist in ensuring that all necessary employee information has been provided in order for employees to receive training.
  • First point for contact for HR assistance including answering main HR phone.
  • Assists in annual benefit open enrollment to provide employees the opportunity to change benefit plans and complete forms. 
  • Responsible for maintaining other employee programs as directed including employment verifications, unemployment and medical support orders.
  • Assists in preparation of performance notices and termination paperwork.
  • Assists with recruitment to include reviewing applicant tracking system, scheduling interviews, preparing interview folders, pre-employment meetings and paperwork.
  • Assists in the preparation of written and verbal communications. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Human Resources procedures, policy adherence, and federal labor regulations including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Workers’ Compensation, HIPAA, and DOL requirements preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written - must be able to communicate with people in potentially stressful situations.
  • High level of attention to details and organized. 
  • Various computer software programs, especially Microsoft Office.
  • Multi-task projects while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field highly desired; and 1-3 years of related experience preferred
  • PHR/SHRM-CP a plus.
