Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs human resource and office related functions in a small manufacturing plant.  Requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization.  This position must be sensitive to employee good will as well as the business needs of Tecomet. The Human Resource Generalist should have broad knowledge and background in the Human Resource field in order to provide necessary support in a variety of functions. 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform day to day human resources tasks with focus on employee relations, recruiting, reporting, team building, etc with support from a remote corporate HR team. 
  • At the site level administer new hire orientation, annual performance review and benefits open enrollment activities
  • Ensure all company policies & procedures are followed
  • Builds rapport with employees at all levels to allow for smooth and professional business operations
  • Support site Payroll functions by maintaining Kronos timekeeping/payroll system and ensuring timecard accuracy
  • Process and submit billing invoices to A/P.  Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies.
  • Control/administer/track purchase orders.  Vendor negotiation as needed.
  • Ensure the day-to-day efficient operation of the office.
  • Maintain office records.
  • Ensure filing systems are maintained and up to date.
  • Ensure protection and security of files and records
  • Transfer and dispose of records according to retention schedules and policies.
  • Additional duties and projects as requested by management team
  • Assists with annual performance evaluations and ensures all are completed, given to employee and signed.
  • Applies all knowledge of Lean and 5S to his/her area and the department.
  • Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by management as deemed appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Human Resource procedures, policies, and legislation including FLSA, benefits, timekeeping, payroll and safety.
  • Able to communicate respectfully with others and work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and activities
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills dealing with a variety of people
  • Computer skills in Windows environment and HR tracking systems.
  • Possesses verbal, written communication, and listening skills.
  • Ability to handle all situations in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to speak in front of people in a variety of settings.
  • Must help support and drive change initiatives with a cheerful and positive disposition
  • Knowledge of various types of office equipment
  • Familiarity with New York State Labor Laws a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

This position requires an Associate’s Degree and two to five years of office experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.   Must have performed Human Resource duties and have a solid understanding of the Human Resource role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office setting in manufacturing facility
  • Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature
  • Hand dexterity, keyboarding, and many forms of communication (electronic, verbal, phone and face to face)
  •  Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to maneuver throughout the facility as needed
