Job Description

The Metrology Technician will create, maintain, improve, and edit automated inspection system programs which would include, but not be limited to, the following: Vision systems, Keyence, C-Vision, E-Cad, OGP Smart Scope, also coordinate measuring machines with PCDMIS and Calypso software.  Be able to execute FAS and FAI inspections as required by Tecomet and or the customer while assuring quality standards are met for the production of quality products. The Technician will also assist in achieving Tecomet’s priorities of safety, quality, schedule, and cost.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform automated inspection systems programming, troubleshooting and editing of programs.
  • Work closely with Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and other Programmers to create automated inspection system inspection programs for new products as well as to improve existing programs.
  • Monitor the automated inspection equipment located on the shop floor and make necessary adjustments/updates/maintenance.
  • Assist with the training group to train associates to operate the inspection equipment.
  • Perform First Article Submission (FAS) and First Article Inspections (FAI).
  • Work directly with quality engineers on customer submission packets and related deliverables.
  • Support the Customer Focus Teams (CFT) and manufacturing teams with quality, inspection, and gauging issues and opportunities.
  • Participate in project teams as the quality inspection representative to interpret customer inspection requirements.
  • Interact with all functions in order to meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements.
  • Adjust and prioritize work to meet deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
  • Instruct plant personnel in proper inspection techniques and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

  • Proficient in the programming of automated inspection system’s related software.
  • Proficient with performing open layouts including compound angles.
  • Intermediate computer skills with word processing, spreadsheet and routine database activity.
  • Proficient in the use of all measuring equipment.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and standard operating procedures.
  • Can handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills.
  • Proficient in GD&T.
  • Ability to be flexible when business needs change.
  • NX cad experience a plus.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • ASQ Certifications:  CCT, CQI or CQT preferred.
