Job Description

MILL METAL WORKER

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform diversified duties including setting up forging die tooling and operating forging machines, setting up and operating drawing and wire rolling machines, inspecting produced parts, loading/unloading furnace, etc. in order to make a variety of forged products.

  • Work in accordance with company/customer specifications, following standard procedures.

  • Analyze process sheets, specifications, drawings, prints, and instructions and determine needed parts, materials, dies, tools for each job.

  • Set-up forging tube drawing and wire rolling machines by selecting proper tooling, aligning tools to forge.

  • Draw and roll parts to exacting close dimensions specified, actuating the machines to engage/align with tooling, checking machine settings, and actuating machines through cycles.

  • Inspect produced parts to specifications, drawings/prints and place in containers.

  • Utilize furnace to heat parts/material where specified for machine operations.

  • Load and unload parts in heated furnace.

  • Operate cut-off, grinding machines as necessary for forging operations.

  • Change over die tooling for all types of forging work and make machine/tooling adjustments to obtain quality forged products.

  • Deburr completed parts as required.

  • Refer operating problems to supervisor.

  • Obtain assistance when moving heavy machine tooling and positioning in machines.

  • Wear protective covering to shield from intense furnace heat.

  • Inspect work using precision measuring instruments.

  • Operate cut-off machines as necessary for forging operations.

  • Maintain necessary records.

  • Move materials as necessary in performance of duties.

  • Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to supervisor.

  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean, safe, and orderly condition.

  • Follow established company rules, regulations, and safety precautions, and maintain quality standards.

  • Perform other related duties as required or as directed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Technical Requirements:

  • Work from process sheets, drawings, prints, specifications, and verbal/written instructions from supervisor.

  • Work with large mechanical press/forging machines, rolling/drawing machines, dies/tooling, fixtures, hand tools, precision measuring instruments such as gauges, micrometers, bench equipment/vices, magnifying glass, light, furnace, hand cart, lift transporter, baskets, dollies, cut-off/grinding machines, and related tools and equipment.

Educational Requirements:

  • High school or equivalent.

  • Use of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of numbers including decimals and fractions, simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams.Use of adjustable measuring instruments, checking of reports, forms, records, and comparable data, where interpretation is required.
