Job Description

The Polisher sets-up and operates a buffing and polishing machine and has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within metal finishing and polishing. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job and works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.


  • Sets-up and operates polishing lathe from print specifications.
  • Polishes instruments per blueprint utilizing a variety of grit belts and wheels while varying operating equipment’s Rpm’s to achieve desired finished.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and equipment upkeep including replacing worn components as necessary.
  • Performs various deburring, glassbeading, and passivation duties when needed.
  • Documents time entry in the computer and completes necessary routers.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work environment through daily and weekly cleaning procedures.
  • Assists in other areas of the production department when needed.


  •  Experienced in metal finishing and/or polishing 
  •  Knowledgeable with back stand polishing lathes, glass bead cabinets, degreasing machines, electro polishing/passivation tanks, heat treat furnaces and computers.
  • Able to read blueprints for finish specifications and critical dimensions.
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • Detail oriented and efficient.
  • Able to multi-task.
  • Able to work under general supervision and follow instructions.
  • Has working knowledge of calipers, micrometers, and indicators.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0-2 years’ experience

This position requires walking, sitting, communicating with others at least 1/3 of scheduled hours.

It also involves reaching and using hands and fingers to operate measuring instruments and machinery.  Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds (under 1/3 of the time).  Must have adequate dexterity with hands and able to work in small areas.


Must be able to read small print (6-12 font) with or without vision aides. The operator is occasionally required to view items at 20 inches or less, with or without vision aides.

  • Less than 90 decibels (TWA).
  • Requires wearing safety glasses, earplugs (optional) and safety shoes.

  • Exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals under 1/3 of the time.
  • Exposed to potential hazard from possible projectiles.
