Product Design Engineer

SUMMARY

 

The Design Engineer is responsible for assistance in the design and development of new products, sustaining activities of existing products, design control of all Tecomet products, creating solid models, and detailing prints.  This person will work under minimal supervision and interface with customers, vendors, and internal departments, all of which are essential to achieving the company’s goal of on-time delivery and high quality products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Uses SolidWorks (3D Modeling) to create designs and drawings.

•    Identifies continuous improvement of existing products.

•    Addresses customers’ issues and improves performance, appearance, and impact of product on the end-user.

•    Reviews and approves customer orders for manufacturing.

•    Researches new materials, assembly methods, and manufacturing processes.

•    Develops B.O.M.s and assembly method.

•    Initiates, executes, and leads design control activities for all Tecomet products

•    Initiates, processes, and reviews Engineering Change Notices.

•    Provides support to manufacturing, quality, marketing, and customer service; interfaces with customers and suppliers.

•    Develops drafting/design standards to increase efficiency.

•    Writes, monitors, and reviews test protocols.

•    Determines product specifications/limitations.

•    Assists with the design of gages, fixtures, and tooling.

•    Implements cost reduction by working closely with manufacturing to reduce scrap and waste.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•         Proficient in 3D Modeling, preferably SolidWorks

•         Basic knowledge of manufacturing methods, processes

•         Proficient in MS Office Products

•         Ability to prioritize and work independently

•         Knowledge of design controls, FDA regulation, EU regulations, GMP practices

•         Basic knowledge of GD&T.

•         Knowledge of continuous improvement, problem solving and Lean.

•         Exceptional interpersonal skills.

•         Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).

•         Ability to work well under pressure and to remain flexible to changing schedules and demands.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 



Education and/or Experience



Associates degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or the equivalent with 3-5 years of experience or bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or the equivalent with 1-3 years of experience; experience with stainless steel, small component design and mechanical assemblies; knowledge of precision machining methods; experience in medical device industry a plus; experience in medical device design controls a plus
