QUALITY INSPECTOR (Layout / Receiving / RMA / FA)

Reports To:     RA/QA Manager / Production Supervisor

SUMMARY

The Quality Inspector performs layout inspection on gages, overlays and first article samples and verifies product conformance (final audits / outsource / returns).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Verifies documents for regulatory compliance.
  • Dimensionally and visually inspects first article samples per blueprints.
  • Communicates with Quality Planners and Engineers to ensure completion of work assignments for FAS.
  • Performs inspections of overlays.
  • Performs visual and dimensional inspections per Quality Plans/router (Forge, Final, Outsource and RMA’s) if necessary in conjunction with other Quality Planners to make disposition
  • Coordinates development and implementation of rework travelers.
  • Verifies re-worked product conforms to specifications.
  • Maintains inventory of returned product and nonconforming review locations.
  • Completes/verify quality documents such as routers, count, outsource certs and tags.
  • Additional duties as requested by management.
  • May be required to travel.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be professional, proactive and positive, with internal and external customers and coworkers.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a minimum of five year related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical/inspection position.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of blueprint reading, and geometric tolerancing.
  • Use and knowledge of inspection equipment such as CMM and Optical Comparator.
  • Use and knowledge of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, CMM, height gages, and comparators
  • Working knowledge of personal computer, keyboard, and various software programs.
  • Strong interdepartmental coordination skills
  • General knowledge of applicable customer specifications and standards.
  • General knowledge of ISO 13485, 9001 and AS9100 standards

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool, or controls.  The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; Specific vision abilities required by this job include near, distance, sharpness vision and color and depth perception. This vision exam will be conducted annually.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
